We Exist to WORK
[don't we?]
Lately, more than ever, I’ve had the chance to connect with many Generators through Human Design readings.
In case you don’t know, Generators are the life of the party. They’re the “don’t stop, keep going” type, the ones you can’t quite figure out how they have so much energy.
And honestly, we’re built for this. We’re the great builders and workers of the world.
When you think about it—how we’re “here to work, to build pieces of this universe”—it almost feels like we got scammed compared to other energy types.
My first reaction was exactly that: I came here to work?! WHAT?!
I want you to take a moment to think of and answer these questions:
What comes to mind when you think about working?
What’s your concept of work?
What do you usually hear from those around you about how they feel about their jobs?
How do you feel about your current job?
How much do you enjoy your daily work life?
Asking yourself these questions, whether you’re a Generator or not—or even if you don’t know a thing about Human Design—helps you reflect on how you relate to work and the standards you’ve set for what it means to have a job.
When we think about work, the usual keywords that pop into mind are:
Effort
Blood, sweat, and tears
Exhaustion
8-hour days
Office
Sacrifice
More effort
Obligatory
Boring
Rigid
Very few people manage to connect work with:
Desire
Fun
Experimentation
Joy
Flexibility
Purpose
I feel like my destiny—beyond being a Manifesting Generator—isn’t to come to this world to build something I’m not passionate about, that doesn’t give me a sense of purpose, or that I don’t enjoy.
Maybe you feel the same way. Maybe you feel like you’re meant for more than just working a job you don’t like or only enjoying life from Friday at 5 p.m. until sometime Sunday (depending on when that “Sunday blues” or “Monday Scaries” kicks in because the next day is a business day). And if you haven’t thought about it yet, I think it’s something super important to reflect on.
How many hours a day do we spend working? 8 hours (on a good day, if your job doesn’t demand even more from you) x 5 days out of the week = 40 hours.
How much energy do you have left after work to do things you love, things you enjoy, that help you relax, or that are just for you to unwind?
I’m asking you all these questions because, in my readings with Generators, the ONE part they don’t resonate with is when I share that they’re the Energy Type with the MOST ENERGY out of all the types.
They’re BURNT OUT. They feel tired, drained, unmotivated.
And it’s no surprise—they’re not working on something that excites them. Or, to be honest, they don’t even know what excites them. And those who do know… aren’t doing it.
Here’s the reality, and I want to make a VERY IMPORTANT disclaimer here:
We can’t ignore reality.
I never disregard reality.
Bills have to be paid. Taxes have to be paid. Rent has to be paid. We need to eat. Many people are parents and have kids to raise and care for.
So, let me be clear—I’m not saying anyone should quit their job overnight.
But that doesn’t mean you should put your dreams on hold.
That doesn’t mean you should take the back seat in your own life.
That doesn’t mean you should neglect your energy, your body, your mind, your soul.
Because here’s the thing:
When you align yourself with your energy and put yourself at the center of your own story, not only do things start to come to you—like this huge, innate magnet that attracts people, places, and opportunities into your orbit—but others also benefit from this! Others feel your energy, your joy, your satisfaction with life.
When we’re not in alignment [and this applies strictly to Generators and Manifesting Generators], we vibrate in Frustration.
Haven’t you ever come home after a long, exhausting day at work, had a bad day, and brought it home with you—only to end up arguing with your partner, losing patience, or getting frustrated with your kids? That frustration stems from doing something that’s a giant “No” in your life, yet you still went ahead and did it.
The deep inner work we, as Generators, need to do to discover what we love, what brings us joy, and what lights us up is often seen as selfish. And that’s because there’s a lot of deconditioning to work through when you start your Human Design journey.
And you can’t even imagine the things that can start manifesting in your life when you’re in alignment. This doesn’t always mean knowing exactly what’s on the other side of the road. Often, it’s about trusting the nudges from your body and your life.
“The dots can only be connected looking backward.” – Steve Jobs
The first step to aligning with the energy that allows your Aura to naturally magnetize is to figure out what you can add to your days to connect with that Generator Satisfaction—that thing you used to love doing but set aside for some reason.
Find ways to sprinkle joy into your day, even if life isn’t perfect right now or won’t magically transform overnight.
What are the things you love but put off until the weekend, that you could be doing Monday through Friday, and that would make you happy or bring you joy?
Connecting with Generator Satisfaction is much simpler than it seems. It doesn’t mean your life has to look Pinterest-perfect or super spectacular. It’s much more doable:
Cook your favorite meal.
Sip on your favorite coffee in the afternoon.
Dance.
Go for a morning walk.
Take a moment for yourself during the day.
Go to your favorite yoga class.
Light those scented candles you bought for your living room but never actually used.
We all face challenges that hide a great gift, and for Generators, it’s the ability to dedicate ourselves to work we truly love. It’s about feeling satisfaction in what we do to make a living—and in life overall. That’s our guide.
